How do I use live resin?
Live resin is best used in a dab rig or dab pen. It’s often quite expensive because of its high quality, but some connoisseurs add small pieces of live resin to their blunts and joints for an intensely elevated flavour profile and potency. It’s all up to you!
What is it?
Live resin is one of the highest quality cannabis extracts you can buy. Other than rosin it is the most flavourful and potent type of extract available to us. Is it created using BHO or PHO methods, which means the high pressures of the solvents are what separates the plant material from the good stuff: trichomes and terpenes.
How is it different than shatter?
But what makes it different than shatter, wax, budder, saps, and all the other BHO and PHO extracts? The biggest difference is the timing of the extraction. Shatter and other solvent extracts are done from dried and cured flower, and the timing of the crop is not taken into account at all.
Timing is everything.
With live resin, speed and timing are everything. Once the cultivator begins the harvest, the extractor works quickly. Performing the extraction techniques within minutes of the plant being cut down or immediately freezing the fresh cut plant for later extraction. This results in a massive difference in terpene content and quality.
Terpenes are volatile.
Certain terpenes are more volatile than others. The moment the plant is cut down, terpenes begin to evaporate. Particular terpenes such as Caryophyllene, which smells of rosemary, cloves and hops, evaporate more quickly. Others like myrcene (earthy, piney kush flavours) stick around for long time. By performing the extraction technique as soon as the plant is harvested, the extractor is able to hold onto these terpenes before they are lost. The result is a magnificently tasty extract.
Cannabinoids are too!
Cannabinoids – like THC and terpenes – are sensitive to light. The longer you cure and dry cannabis and expose it to light, the more of these compounds will break down or transform. Live resin is the best way to preserve cannabinoids and terpenes of any given strain.
